Ben-Day Dots stencil creation & making the Killers album

The drill hole didn’t end up overly useful to me

Sketching out the sizing for the killers album on some craft paper so to not scratch up the board

Using the end of a pencil to make my dots, coming out pretty successful

tried a whole variety of things to punch different holes into the tinfoil.

Got the foreground finished, pretty happy with the process

I had thought that perhaps painting the image as normal large bright colour blocks and then putting a large sheet of tin foil with large holes in it to create the same effect of holes with a silver background, however tin foil is difficult to make clean holes in and the whole thing was a little too craft like. Making it with pencil ends makes things more messy but its working out okay.After all the problems with stencils and things, it wont quiet look like benday dots, not as graphic. I think having a more organic natural look will be better anyways, and even matches the image anyways.

Moving on up the sky, it’s hard not to get my dots touching the title. I had to add in the moon now so I’d know where to position things around it later, it would be too difficult otherwise.

Everything is all filled in now!

Using a darker pink and some of the gel medium I went over the title so that each dot sticks out dramatically into a high peak. I liked this colour better than the original I thought the lighter pink got washed out too easily. I also added some stars by using the other end of the pencil for larger dot sizes

All Done! 🙂 the silver background look much shinier in real life. I went over the foreground and fixed the parts I didnt like and filled it in more as well as changed some of the lines in the sky to be slightly different shades of blue that flowed better. I also went over all the whites to make them brighter
